Kickstarter Campaign "Love & 20 Pesos"

Hey y'all!!

We have 3 scant days to reach our goal for our Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming Burning Angels album, "Love & 20 Pesos". Today we have had some unbelievable people step forward and show their support with pledges but we are still approximately $2000 short of our goal.

The goal of $3000 is for the recording, mastering, production and distribution of the album. The pre-production has already been completed and the songs tracked for demos. This project means a lot to us because of the sound that we have evolved into over the past 3 years. If you contribute $1 or $5 that would mean the world to us and spread to your friends. We feel that we can pull this off in a short period of time with all of you awesome folks. Please click on the widget below and check out the project and spread the word. The Burning Angels certainly appreciate it!

2011 Athfest Music & Arts Festival

It's that time of year when we can gather in the sultry, steamy streets of Athens and relish (often times worship) our local musicians. This year will be no different save for the fact there will be some new faces taking one of the outside stages or indoor venues.

I've come up with some of my favorites that you will more than likely find me, sometimes in complete awe, sometimes working my guitar with a feverish pitch, sometimes both...

We are honored and humbled to appear on this years Athfest Compilation CD with several EXTREMELY talented artists. The Welfare Liners (Terrapin Beer) and The Burning Angels (Nazareth Song) are the two that made it from my camp. We appreciate Ghostmeat Records for doing what they do to get this CD out there!! All proceeds from the CD go to benefit Music and Arts Education for Kids. I couldn't pick a better cause to promote. Please purchase a copy at www.ghostmeat.com.

Futurebirds is one of my favorite new bands that I've been jiving to. They are nominated along with us (The Burning Angels) as the Best Country/Southern Rock Band for the Athens Music Awards and should win it by God. They play Friday from 9 to 10:00 on the Pulaski Street Stage (Headliner). Catch them.

"Chickenbone"

Or "Ship...Dam". If I had a dime for every time that I uttered those phrases over the past 20 years, I wouldn't be a struggling artist. My good buds and probably one of my biggest influences musically, The Chickasaw Mudd Puppies, have been steam rolling their way back to the front of the music scene, beginning with packing out The Melting Point last month. They also had "Chickenbone" appear in the film soundtrack for "The Mechanic". They'll be taking the stage in typical, high energy form at 7:45 on Saturday June 25th on the main stage. Rob Keller (The Welfare Liners, 6 String Drag, Workhorses of the Recreational and Entertainment Industry) will be joining them on upright bass! You can also catch CMP the following week (June 29th) with The Burning Angels in Florence, SC for the Back Swamp School House Concert hosted by our good friends at Country Fried Rock.

"Better still and burning down..."

My heart and soul for the past 2 years, The Burning Angels. When I formed the band in 2009, I never in a million years thought that we would be nominated for "Upstart of the Year" the first year and "Best Country/Southern Rock Band" by Flagpole Magazine for the Athens Music Awards 2011. This band is ever evolving with music and sounds and I can't be more proud. We'll be performing for Athfest at The Globe on Saturday, June 25th at Midnite. Hell yeah...

"Fill me up that Icy Mug..."
Those Welfare Liners. If you ever wondered what would have happened back in the 50's if belligerent, degenerate  punk rock/honky tonkers were around and took over the Grand Ole Opry stage, then you need to experience a Welfare Liners show. It's memorable and fun. Just ask the folks who have seen us in Athens and Augusta. But you may want to wait until they finish therapy. The Welfare Liners play the 2nd stage on Saturday June 25th at 2:00 pm.
The just released self-titled EP is for sale at www.GhostMeat.com and iTunes!

"Searching For The Wrong Eyed Jesus"
This film by Jim White totally blew me away. An exploration into southern music with true southern gothic imagery will take you to levels of appreciation that you never thought existed. When I found out that Jim was now living in Athens, I had a renewed sense of hope in the music scene! Jim is such an accomplished artist in any form and if we can get the Europeans to let him play here in the States more often then the world will be OK. Check out Jim on the Pulaski stage...you guessed it...Saturday June 25th at 6:30.

I'll be updating this blog throughout the week with more music and news. Check out the music man about town, Daniel Peiken, and his photos and videos at www.athensrockshow.com.
Daniel has been photographing and filming Athens music forever and knows the ins and outs of the festival.

Also head to the main site www.athfest.com for full schedules, happenings and all other good info!

Mark Cunningham, the founder of The Burning Angels and Desolation Row Records brings his old country/americana and punk influences to the Burning Angel sound. In later years the discovery of Gram Parsons and use of harmonies opened up a brand new world. The Burning Angels self-titled debut album is scheduled for release April 2011. Recorded and engineered by John Keane of John Keane Studios.

Nazareth Song from the debut album will appear on the 2011 Athfest Compilation CD.
